Compatible Ink Cartridges Put to the Test

(ContentDesk) March 1, 2006 -- Whether you're an advocate of printer manufacturer ink cartridges or have already tried a compatible brand, the question will have occurred to you: Why do original cartridges cost so much? The price of manufacturer branded cartridges can be in many cases more than twice as much as some alternative brands. This for many people leads them to conclude that the price difference is probably justified; and that trying a compatible brand is likely to be a gamble that will only end with a broken printer.Whilst this might be the case in a handful or cases, as with many markets there are quality alternatives which offer a real opportunity to reduce the cost of printing with a virtually undetectable loss of quality. The fact is, most of us do not demand that much of our cartridges, and the results offered by the more reputable of compatible brands offer all we require. What also adds to the gulf in price is the profit model employed by the printer manufacturers. They understand that once the printer is sold it then becomes a lucrative profit vehicle.

Therefore, the manufacturer sells the printer at a discount in order to get you to buy into their lucrative ink cartridge business. With the advent of cheaper compatible cartridges made by third-parties, they are seeing that business model fail. They have of course fought back with claims that that the user risks loss of quality. While that may be true if you need the absolute best print from your machine, it's not if you just want to print out a regular text document or other standard files. Testing by UK consumer group Which? has found that some compatible ink cartridges are almost as good as printer manufacturers' own and are much cheaper. Indeed there is a compatible brand Lyson Ink Cartridges which is preferred over the original brand by many in the print production and design industry - where high quality results are imperative.By choosing one of the best performing compatible ink cartridges, such as the Phoenix brand (available at www.ink-toner-uk.com) an average user could save about ?100 over three years.

Using Epson ink cartridges would cost a user about ?220 over the period while a supply of generic ink from Print-Rite would cost ?50. Of course the greater your requirement for printing the greater the gain. The printer manufacturers' own cartridges do produce excellent results on text, graphs and photos, making them all best buys, but they're very expensive, Which? said. Generics such as Print Rite and Ink Again also gain best buy status for a fraction of the cost. At the other end of the scale, some of the Jet Tec cartridges used on a Lexmark printer failed during the test, produced disappointing results and were given 'Don't Buy' status. The worst cartridges, however, were Cartridge Save for the Lexmark Z515 printer, which were so unreliable Which? couldn't even complete tests on them.

By the way the Z515 printer costs under ?35 but will cost you about ?700 in Lexmark branded cartridges over three years. Which? recommends that customers get rid of the Lexmark and get a printer with lower running costs, such as an Epson or a Canon that offer savings on cartridges with out the compromise on quality associated with refilled cartridges..

Discount Ink Cartridge, Toner Cartridge

Discount ink cartridges and toner cartridges are in great demand these days. Due to the drop in price, many families and small business owners can buy an inkjet / photo printer for under $100 and a discount laser printer for under $200. Increased number of printer ownership means that there is a larger aftermarket for printing supplies.

Nevertheless, consumers who bought a cheap printer would soon find out that their spending did not end there, but rather have just begun. For examples, many OEM laser toners are selling at $100 a piece, the same price of an inkjet printer or one-half of that for a discount laser printer.

A family who print a lot of color photos with their photo printer can easily spend more than $100 on OEM ink cartridges in several months. Think about this, it is absurd that one would spend more on replacement cartridges than on the printer itself in such a short period of time. As a result,...

Can I Use My Old Ink In My New Printer?

The answer is...yes and no. Whoh! That's not an answer. Well consider this. How many printer models do you think there are out there right now? 1000? 2000? Who knows. But one thing I do know is nobody, including me, is going to spend the time testing the wrong inks in the wrong cartridges all day long to see if it works."OK wise guy", you say, "can I at least get a reasonable explanation of why I can't use my old ink in my new printer?"Sure, that's an easier question to answer.

You see, everybody already assumes that they can before they even ask the question, that's why they word it that way. It's because of the people who sell those "one kit fits all" refill kits. All printer manufacturers do things a little different. Without getting technical, there are basically three different technologies for inkjet printers. Epson uses Piezoelectric, Canon uses Bubblejet and HP and Lexmark use thermal inkjet technology. An ink designed for Canon, for instance, has a much lower convection...

The Great Ink Cartridge Conspiracy!

The Great Ink Cartridge Conspiracy!Buying an inkjet printer these days is no big deal. A reliable printer can be acquired very easily through a store or online for as little as $50. Some suppliers are even giving away inkjet printers on promotions or as free incentives when buying other products. On the face of it, it seems like too good an opportunity to pass by - a worthwhile investment you might say. But, much like a traditional camera that uses film, an inkjet printer is only 'cheap' before you start using it.

The cost of keeping it in ink soon mounts up, especially when you're buying OEM (original equipment manufactured) inkjet cartridges as recommended by the printer manufacturer. Before you know it you'll find that you've actually spent more on the ink cartridges than you did on the purchase of the inkjet printer itself! If you're in this position - and let's face it, most of us are - what follows could be quite a revelation!Five things inkjet printer manufacturers DON...

The Effects Of Exercise On Body Temperature

If you are having trouble sleeping, and you don't already have a regular exercise program, you should start one if you want to sleep better. Exercise is beneficial to sleep in several ways. For example, exercise raises the body temperature rhythm and allows your body temperatures to ?peak' at a higher level. This, in turn, increases your energy level during the day, so you'll feel more motivated and alive. And just as body temperature reach its maximum at a higher level through exercise, the body's...

Lawsuit Settlement Funding

The concept of Lawsuit Settlement Funding proves extremely beneficial to people who do not have the requisite funds to fight their personal injury lawsuit cases. Consider a situation when you find at the receiving end of racial discrimination at the workplace, or have been unceremoniously thrown out of a job, and you don't have the finances to go to court to fight for your rights. It is here that pre-lawsuit funding companies enter into the picture. They provide the required funds to the injured...
